We are heartbroken to share the news of the passing of Malcolm-Jamal Warner, an award-winning actor, musician, director, poet, and cultural icon. He tragically lost his life on July 20, 2025, at the age of 54, during a family trip to Costa Rica.
Best known to many as Theo Huxtable from The Cosby Show, Malcolm-Jamal’s talent transcended generations. He earned an Emmy nomination for his role and went on to build a dynamic career across television, film, and music. His roles in Malcolm & Eddie, The People v. O. J. Simpson, The Resident, and countless others showcased a rare versatility and depth.
He was also a Grammy-winning musician, celebrated for his collaboration on “Jesus Children” with the Robert Glasper Experiment and Lalah Hathaway. His voice, whether on screen, on stage, or behind a microphone, always carried power and purpose.
In 1988, Malcolm-Jamal published a memoir titled Theo and Me: Growing Up Okay, offering a heartfelt and candid reflection on his journey from childhood into the public eye. More recently, he co-hosted the podcast Not All Hood, where he discussed identity, community, and the Black experience with honesty and insight.
Malcolm-Jamal Warner was more than a performer—he was a thinker, a teacher, and a champion for authenticity. We honor the legacy he leaves behind and the lives he touched around the world.
Rest in power, Malcolm. You were deeply loved, and you will be deeply missed.
