Nicole Bradley Shares the Art of Candle-Making: Virtual Classes, Creative Insights, and What’s Next
3 min read
What inspired you to start hosting virtual candle-making classes, and what do you hope participants take away from the experience?
I am a former teacher, so teaching is one of my gifts. Several customers have asked me if I ever thought of teaching candle classes. I pondered on the thought but never moved forward with it. Recently, my sister suggested that I teach candle making, and then maybe within a week of my sister saying that Dr. Tangela Mitchell and I were conversing, and we discussed hosting a candle-making class together. So, my inspiration has been the people in my life, my teaching background, and my love of candle-making. I hope participants enjoy a virtual candle-making class, laugh with other participants, and have a wonderful candle that lights up their day. I am hosting my first Virtual Candle Making Class with Dr. Tangela Mitchell-Rivers. The class will be held on February 8, 2025. Registration closes on January 26, 2025.

Candle-making is both an art and a science. Can you share some of the most surprising or creative aspects of the process that people might not expect?
Some creative aspects of candle making include choosing the type of wax and vessels. I have an affinity for soy wax. I graduated from Indiana University, and our rival was Purdue University. Purdue University students created soy candles. Soy candles burn cleaner, and the oil can be massaged into the skin and doesn’t “cake up.” One last interesting fact is that you can melt crayon wax and make candles. That would be a fun activity with young kids.
Your event promises relaxation and creativity. How do you create an atmosphere that fosters both in a virtual setting?

We will have interactive activities, and participants are encouraged to bring their favorite beverage, I will most likely be sipping on ginger tea, and I will have my music playlist playing in the background. My massage therapy clients love my music playlist, so I’m hoping our virtual candle makers feel the same.
Do you have any favorite scents or unique combinations that you love to use in your own candle-making?
I love lemon. Lemon has a versatile effect on me. If I need a calming space, lemon does that for me. If I need to be energized lemon seems to do that for me. Now, ironically enough our best sellers are our “Forbidden Fruit” and “First Date” fragrances and these fragrances do not have any citrus component. “Forbidden Fruit” has blends of Papaya and mango and blends awesomely with our proprietary blend. I like to say “First Date” is the cousin to “Forbidden Fruit”. “First Date” has blends of peach and combines amazingly with our proprietary blend.
Any tips for beginners looking to experiment?
My suggestion is don’t be afraid to try different wax and techniques. Buy fragrance in small amounts just in case you find that it is not your cup of tea.
