Intellectual Ink Magazine | Black Girl Magic Spotlight

Trivia Rene Thomas has built a life around family, faith, professional excellence, and community. Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, she brings those values into her work as an author, Certified Public Accountant, Certified Fraud Examiner, and entrepreneur.

Her book, We Won’t Forget, honors the achievements and sacrifices of Black trailblazers and encourages readers to celebrate their heritage and recognize their own potential. Through Taxable Solutions Inc., Thomas also helps business owners develop stronger financial foundations and make informed decisions about their futures.

Behind these accomplishments is a woman who finds inspiration in everyday excellence, values the relationships that sustain her, and measures success through peace, gratitude, and personal freedom.

In this exclusive Black Girl Magic website spotlight, Thomas shares the experiences and perspectives that continue to shape her journey.

The Woman Behind the Work

Intellectual Ink Magazine: For readers meeting you for the first time, who is Trivia Thomas beyond the titles of author, CPA, and entrepreneur?

Trivia Thomas: I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. My mother raised my sister and I. Although my parents divorced when I was eight, my dad was always a big part of my life.

I am a soft-spoken, loyal, and caring person. I love spending time with my family, and I am passionate about keeping family together, spreading joy, encouraging others, and enjoying life.

I’m also spiritually grounded, love to travel, learn new things, listen to music, watch sports, and appreciate the beautiful things all around me.

I am inspired by excellence, people who are very good and conscientious about what they do, whether it be a football player, a mentor, a cashier, or a chef.

Building Financial Confidence

Intellectual Ink Magazine: Many people feel intimidated by taxes and money management. What are some of the biggest misunderstandings you see people have about their finances?

Trivia Thomas: The biggest misunderstanding I’ve noticed is failing to realize that small changes and sacrifices over time can make a huge difference.

I used to believe I needed a huge sum of money, or a lot of extra money, to start investing. I found that making small, regular contributions to a good investment fund can provide meaningful returns over time.

I’ve heard it said that when we put our money to work, it works harder than we do.

Another misunderstanding is underestimating the importance of insurance, including life, home, disability, and other types. This is how we protect what we acquire.

The Rewards of Entrepreneurship

Intellectual Ink Magazine: How has being a business owner changed the way you think about financial security, independence, and building something of your own?

Trivia Thomas: I am grateful I can provide for myself and also create opportunities for those around me. It is very rewarding to build something that I am passionate about. I now see financial security as more attainable, and I feel that I’ve learned a few things that I can share with others.

Learning to Keep Going

Intellectual Ink Magazine: What obstacles have you had to overcome as a Black woman building a professional brand and business, and what has helped you continue moving forward?

Trivia Thomas: I had to overcome the obstacles and discouragement of hearing the word “No.”

Not everyone is going to have the same passion or timeline that you have for your creation. I had to learn to stay encouraged when things didn’t work out the way I envisioned or on my timeline.

Defining Success on Her Own Terms

Intellectual Ink Magazine: Success can look very different depending on the season of life. How do you define success for yourself today?

Trivia Thomas: For me, success is being at peace with where I am and what I have accomplished and overcome. I appreciate all the events, highs and lows, that brought me to where I am today.

To me, success is having the freedom to live life, within reason, on my own terms.
