Poetic Thursday: Spin Cycle
1 min read
“Spin Cycle” by Louie Barroso is a meditative piece that finds poetry in the everyday. With lyrical rhythm and a quiet vulnerability, Barroso explores self-image, emotional exhaustion, and the beauty of care—through the gentle metaphor of laundry. This poem invites you to slow down, breathe deep, and appreciate the small, soft rituals that keep us grounded.
Spin Cycle.
There aren’t enough love songs in the world.
All this laundry and not enough love songs.
All these outfits.
This is probably where the writer refers to clothing as a mask.
Then says something poetic about expression and self-image.
But, honestly, right now,
this writer would rather watch the Whirlpool
spin
and spin
and twirl
and settle.
Exhausted with the esoteric threads of the world.
Ready to be clothed in sweatpants that vacationed in the dryer,
longing for warmth.
To be treated with such care and attention,
cycled between gentle–delicate.
What a feeling.
