INTELLECTUAL INK MAGAZINE WINS “LITERARY MAGAZINE OF THE YEAR” FOUR TIMES AT THE AFRICAN AMERICAN LITERARY AWARD SHOW

Lansdowne, PA — Intellectual Ink Magazine has once again been named Literary Magazine of the Year at the African American Literary Award Show (AALAS), claiming the title for 2021, 2023, 2024, and 2025.

Founded by Julia Press Simmons, Intellectual Ink has become one of the most dynamic independent Black literary publications in America, a celebration of community, creativity, and culture. Under the visionary direction of Creative Director Charlotte Young Foye, the magazine has redefined what a modern literary platform can be, merging art, literature, and social impact.

“This win belongs to the entire village,” said Simmons. “From our readers to our contributors, we have built something rare and real — a movement that keeps growing because our people believe in the power of their own stories.”

Since moving into the Shawn Rae Art Gallery in April 2025, Intellectual Ink has become more than a magazine — it is now a creative hub for writers, artists, and entrepreneurs. Through its workshops, open mics, book clubs, and community events, the Ink team continues to expand its mission to make art and literature accessible to all.

This year’s victory honors not only the publication but also the writers and creatives who make up its powerful network, including Haikeem Stokes, Erick Gray, Braheim Gibbs, Author Untamed, Karen E. Quinones Miller, Shonda Mayes, Diane Rembert, Phoenix Kabali, and Corey Floyd, among many others.

“Every feature, every poem, every story is a testament to our resilience and brilliance,” said Foye. “This win proves what happens when we honor our truth and lead with love.”

To celebrate, Intellectual Ink is offering free digital access to Issue 30: The Children’s Issue on Issuu, featuring Sharon G. Flake on the cover. Print and ebook editions are also available on Amazon.
